Do you have a family quote book? A place to jot down all of the funny and memorable things your kids say?
If you don’t, I’d highly recommend that you buy one today.
We’ve written in a family quote book for close to 14 years, and the memories that are recorded there are priceless to me. I knew I may have trouble remembering all the hilarious things my kids have said, but by writing them down, we can remember and enjoy those memories together.
I didn’t expect how much my kids would enjoy regularly reading through our book and reading their favorite quotes out loud. The writing and reading of this book has built our family identity and culture in a way I never expected. In fact, we wrote in it so much, that we’re on our second book.
Here are the two books we’ve enjoyed using. They’re hardcover for durability, the pages already have templates for recording quotes, and they are small enough to fit in a drawer next to our kitchen table, for easy access.
I’ll leave you with a few of my favorite quotes from our family book.

Eadie, speaking quickly about a new choir song: “I’m really starting to like ‘O Nauta Lux’. It’s beautiful.”
Me: “Uno Deluxe? I didn’t know you had such strong feelings about Uno.”
Christian: “Or considered it beautiful.”

Greta, sharing deep thoughts from the back of the van: “All squirrels are communists. Except the babies. (ominously) Until they learn.”

Eadie: “I don’t need any caffeine, I slept GREAT last night… except for the opossum dreams.”
